Adopt Our Residents
Adopt one of our wonderful horses, ponies or donkeys and help provide the care and love they deserve.
Adoption costs just £24 a year or £2 a month by Direct Debit. Every donation helps provide food, shelter, veterinary care and everything your adopted animal needs to enjoy a safe and happy life.
As a thank you, you’ll receive a beautiful A6 photograph of your chosen animal, an official adoption certificate, and a personal profile sharing their story, personality and life at the sanctuary.
Simply browse the animals below, choose your favourite and click the adopt button to make your donation. You'll be redirected to the secure Charities Aid Foundation website. Our preferred payment method is monthly Direct Debit, as it provides reliable, ongoing support and helps reduce administration costs. If you would rather make a single annual payment, that’s absolutely fine too, we’ll send you a reminder when it’s time to renew.
Once your donation has been processed, we’ll email you to confirm your adoption and what name you would like on the adoption certificate, and your pack will be posted shortly afterwards.
Archie
Archie is a beautiful bay gelding; he was born in 2014 and is around 14hh. He is quite a shy boy and due to his start is quite nervous although the staff are working hard to build his trust. This has to be done very slowly with Archie as he has Wobblers Syndrome, a condition that affects the nervous system and makes him wobbly on his feet.
Bracken
Bracken is a brown donkey, born in 2000, who came to the Sanctuary in 2018 with his mum, Daisy, after their elderly owner sadly developed dementia.
In recent years, Bracken has developed asthma and now needs daily medication, a special nebuliser and a dust-free bed to keep him comfortable.
Although his lifelong treatment is costly, he is the gentlest, kindest soul and will always have a loving forever home here, where we’ll continue to give him the care he deserves.
Bramble
Bramble is a Miniature Shetland pony, born in 2004, who arrived at Bolenowe in 2024 with his lifelong friend Rosie after their elderly owner sadly passed away, leaving them without anyone to care for them.
Thanks to the sanctuary, they were given the fresh start they deserved. He is a gentle yet playful soul, and nothing makes him happier than charging around the paddock in a game of zoomies with his friends.
Every day is a reminder of how much a second
chance can mean.
Cracker
Cracker is a sweet female donkey who has been at the sanctuary since 2009. She was born around 2001 and was originally rescued with two other donkeys when their elderly owner could no longer care for them. She is very noisy and will let you know when it's feed time or if she wants to come inside.
Danny
Danny is a palomino Falabella pony who was born in 2004 and is around 36” high. He was rescued from Troon, near Camborne, along with 2 other ponies, Beanie and Saxo.
Danny lost an eye several years ago in an accident and unfortunately got a condition called Uveitis in his remaining eye.
Despite intensive treatment he has also lost the sight in the second eye and is now completely blind.
He is the sweetest boy and loves attention, grooming and cuddles.
Leo
Leo is a 9hh piebald American Miniature horse. He was a much-loved family pet that came to us due to his owner's unfortunate ill health. He is extremely friendly and is always the first one over to greet you and check your pockets for any hidden treats!
He has previously suffered from a condition called laminitis (a painful condition of the hooves) which is managed with a careful diet and regular hoof trimming.
Phoebe
Phoebe is a stunningly beautiful Welsh Section C mare. She came to us in November 2025 with Dingle when their owner very sadly developed dementia and could no longer look after them.
We unfortunately had to separate her from Dingle as it became increasingly difficult to feed them what they required with their very different needs, and Phoebe was becoming overweight. She is now with smaller, younger ponies that match her requirements. Phoebe is very friendly but is also a strong-willed character and needs firm, confident handling.
Rebecca
Rebecca is a Bodmin Moor pony who came to us in 2015 as part of a large rescue to reduce the number of ponies on the moor, which was becoming overpopulated, and as a result the ponies were starving.
She was 1 of a group of 7 that we took in, who were all completely wild and most
were underweight.
Since being in our care all went through a training programme for handling and today Rebecca is a well adjusted pony but she remains timid in certain situations, with her true wild roots occasionally showing through.
Rosie
Rosie is a Miniature Shetland pony who arrived at Bolenowe in 2024 with her lifelong friend Bramble. Their elderly owner had sadly passed away, leaving nobody able to care for them, but thankfully they found safety and a loving forever home at the sanctuary.
After a little TLC, Rosie soon began to flourish. With her beautiful flowing golden mane and confident personality, she loves to strut around the paddock as though she owns the place! Behind her sassy attitude is a little pony who has been given a precious second chance.
Smokey
Smokey is a 16hh Dutch Warmblood who was born in 2003. He came to Bolenowe when his elderly owners failing health meant they were no longer able to care for him.
Smokey can be quite highly strung at times and would not settle in with our herd of the larger animals, he much prefers the quieter life with our smaller group requiring extra care. And his new friend Dingle adores him.
Although he is big and can seem a little intimidating, his behaviour is impeccable when being handled and for the vet and farrier visits which makes life a lot easier.
TC
TC is a chocolate dun Shetland cross pony, born at the Sanctuary in 2014. Her mum, Silky, was rescued while unknowingly carrying her, making her arrival a wonderful surprise. After several years on the Sanctuary’s loan scheme, she returned when circumstances changed. Cheeky and determined, TC always knows what she wants. When she decided she preferred the company of Leo, Rosie and Bramble, she simply jumped the fence and made herself right at home!
Wisp
Wisp is a 11hh Moor gelding, born in 2004. He was originally rescued by his previous owner from a horrendous situation where his back legs were tied and he was constantly beaten. Sadly his owner passed away suddenly, and we were able to rescue this very nervous boy and give him his forever home. He has settled in well and shares his paddock with Twinky, a white palomino mare, who was rescued around the same time. Understandably, Wisp is still very nervous when his back legs are check by
the farrier. But we are working with him to build his trust.
